From the start, Lumify’s overarching mission has always been to build tools and solutions that support healthcare workers. When we originally launched the uNight Light at the beginning of 2021, we knew that it was just the beginning. We didn’t anticipate the uNight Light to blast off as it did right from the start, however, within just weeks of our launch, we had sold thousands of units. The process to get the uNight Light to market was a bit of a whirlwind and full of learning curves, but we were excited to offer our fellow healthcare workers a tool that would brighten their shifts and allow them to more easily care for their patients.
As we launch of the much anticipated uNight Light 2.0, we thought it would be fun to reflect on our journey and share with you what the process was like to create this new version! Much of the process involves YOU, and for that we are so grateful.
Feedback
We absolutely love our healthcare community and we were floored by the outpour of encouraging emails, DMs, and comments after launching the flagship uNight Light. We were equally grateful for all the incredible feedback we received! In addition to organically receiving feedback, we also hosted user focus groups, made phone calls to healthcare workers who had purchased the uNight Light, and chatted with all of our healthcare friends to learn more about the features that people loved and what about the product needed work. After evaluating our own experiences wearing the uNight Light and hearing the validating voices of all of our fellow healthcare workers, we felt confident about taking the next step to build the uNight Light 2.0.
Design
When designing the uNight Light 2.0, we knew that it needed to remain small, light weight, liquid repellent, and easily cleaned by hospital grade disinfectant. We wanted to take all of the feedback that we received from our amazing healthcare workers and create a product that would elevate their ability to care for their patients and keep them safe during their shifts.
We listed all the pieces of feedback we received and then searched for inspiration for how we wanted the shape, color, aesthetic to look for this new version. Once we had an idea of what we were looking to create, we sought out to find an engineering team to help us craft the new version of the uNight Light. Deciding who to work with was a challenge — we needed to balance cost and length of time the project was going to take. This was not an easy process or decision. We ended up working with a few different engineers and after reviewing several different designs and making dozens of adjustments, we had it! The new look for the uNight Light 2.0. We were ready to make it come to life…
Manufacture
Fortunately, we had developed a relationship with the manufacturer who produced our original uNight Light. We were able to work with their team to fill in the gaps from the work our previous engineers had done and settle on a product that we were truly proud of. Next came the phases of production, the 3D model, the first sample, the final sample, and then into production. During each phase, there were more iterations and adjustments made, all for the purpose of ensuring that our fellow healthcare workers had a solid, high quality product that would be just as important during their shift as the stethoscope around their neck.
uNight Light 2.0

- Improved design: uNight Light 2.0 is still light-weight and liquid repellent, but we updated the look to ensure it’s sleek and stylish, even during your busiest shifts.
- Rechargeable: No need to change the uNight Light’s batteries anymore! Now, just charge your uNight Light after your shift.
- Stronger magnet: uNight Light 2.0 is still attachable to scrubs, but now with a stronger grip! Simply slide the magnet on the back, attach to your scrub top, and snap into place.
- Individual light buttons: Instead of toggling through light colors with one button, you can individually activate each color option.
- Light dimmer: Simply hold down the light button to adjust the intensity for a dimmer or brighter light. Your uNight will remember your preferred setting the next time you use it!
- Color adjustment: The white light has been perfected to mimic the preferred lighting for assessments and use in the clinical setting.
